Gambia host 5th ASMA Conference
The 5th conference of the African Sport Management Association, is being hosted by the Gambia National Sports Council at the Paradise Suites Hotel.
The Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Mr. Saikou Sanyang delivered the opening statement on behalf of his Minister. In his deliberation, PS Sanyang harped on the importance of the conference whose theme is “investing in grassroots sport, the surest way of achieving excellence in sport”.
Prof. Omotayo deputizing for the President of ASMA, noted that he was hopeful that the conference will be enriching and useful in ensuring that the participants make significant contributions towards the development of sport in their respective countries and in Africa as a whole.
For his part, the Chairman of the National Sports Council, Mr. Lamin Jawara pledged the support of the NSC to ASMA.
Mr. Jawara urged National Sport Federations to make the best use of the ASMA conference.
Speaking earlier, Executive Director of NSC, Marchel Mendy, who doubles as chairperson of the NOC for the ASMA Conference, said “I am sure this conference will build many bridges for the benefit of our continent ”
Highlighting the achievements of ASMA conference, Mr. Mendy said the biannual conference started about ten years ago in Kenya and it has proved to be a catalyst for the development of Sport in Africa.
It could be recalled that ASMA was established in 2010 in Kenya and inaugurated in Kampala, Uganda. Since its inception, it has held it’s conferences in Tanzania, Nigeria and Kenya.
