Finnish born Gambian Judoka, Alex Faye Njie, has just made history by winning for The Gambia, the first silver medal in the history of the Commonwealth Games. In the process, Faye has beome the second Gambian to win a medal in the Commonwealth Games, after Shiekh Tijan Faye, won a bronze medal in the 1970 edition.
The young and talented Gambian Judoka who is also the African silver medalist in the 73kg, lost to Daniel Powell, the world champion in the category, only in the golden rule after a scoreless regulation time.
Alex Faye Njie, Gambia’s most decorated Judoka and one of the most decorated Gambian athletes of all time, now sets his eyes on a gold medal at the Islamic Games scheduled to take place in Konya, Turkiye from 9th to 18th August, 2022.
