The Gambia Wins its Second Medal At The 22nd African Senior Athletics Championship

Gina Bass, Nyimasata Jawneh, Maimuna Jallow and Fatou Sowe won bronze in 4x100mts relay with a timing of 44.45sec at the 22nd edition of the African Senior Athletics Championship underway in Mauritius. This is the country’s first team medal in the championship and second medal for the Gambia after Gina Bass won gold medal in 100mts yesterday.
The Gambian team finished just behind second place Nigeria as South Africa won the gold medal. With this timing the Gambian team set a new national record but narrowly missed the qualification time for the up coming World Games next month in Oregon. Gambia’s track queen won her second continental gold medal and set a national record as she finish off the 100mts race with a timing of 11.8sec yesterday.
The Gambian contingent will return to the Coted’Or National Sports Complex tomorrow at 9:10 and 9:55 respectively. Gina Bass is expected to win another medal for the country as 200mts is her best event after wining 200mts gold at the African Games in Rabat in 2019 and improved her timing in the same event at the Tokyo Olympic Games.
