Stakeholders Elect New Wrestling Executive Committee in Upper River Region

On Saturday, November 16, 2024, stakeholders in the Upper River Region convened in Basse to usher in a new executive committee to lead the region’s wrestling affairs. Delegates unanimously elected Mr. Jewru Krubally as chairman of the new executive committee during the elective congress.

In his address, Alagie Bojang, Desk Officer for Wrestling, advised the newly elected committee to fully commit to advancing wrestling in the region. He praised the Gambia Wrestling Association (GWA) for ensuring that regional congresses are held systematically, emphasizing that such initiatives foster the growth of the sport. Bojang also commended the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the National Sports Council (NSC) for conducting congresses through their regional structures.

Alagie Moya Baldeh, Regional Sports Chairperson, assured the gathering of his office’s close collaboration with the new executive to ensure all district structures are well-regulated and aligned with the region’s goals.

Speaking on behalf of the GWA President, Second Vice President Ousman Njie thanked Chairman Krubally and his team for their selfless dedication over the years. He stressed the importance of unity among stakeholders and pledged the GWA’s unwavering support to elevate the standards of wrestling in the region.

Chairman Jewru Krubally expressed gratitude to the GWA and NSC for their continued guidance and support. Reflecting on his executive’s past achievements, he promised to sustain the momentum by initiating impactful programs. He revealed that their immediate priority is preparing a competitive team for the upcoming National Youth Conference and Festival (NAYCONF).

Musa Jarra, Youth and Sports Coordinator for the Upper River Region, facilitated the congress, which was well-attended by key stakeholders.
