NSC Acting Executive Director Receives SUPdeCO Students’ Union on Tertiary Sports Development

Earlier today, the Acting Executive Director of the National Sports Council received a courtesy visit from the Secretary General and Assistant Secretary General of the SUPdeCO Students’ Union. The visit was aimed at expressing appreciation for the Council’s strategic support towards the ongoing Inter-Tertiary Football Tournament, hosted by the SUPdeCO Banjul Campus Students’ Union in collaboration with the Gambia Football Federation.

During the engagement, the Acting Executive Director reaffirmed the Council’s unwavering commitment to the growth of structured sports within tertiary institutions. He emphasized that initiatives such as the Inter-Tertiary Tournament are critical to nurturing young talent, strengthening institutional sports systems, and promoting national unity through healthy competition.

He further commended the Students’ Union for its initiative, describing the tournament as a landmark step in the development of tertiary sports in The Gambia, and a clear reflection of how partnerships between student bodies and national institutions can yield impactful results.

The meeting also provided an opportunity to explore future collaboration, with the National Sports Council reiterating its readiness to support programmes that align with national sports development priorities, youth empowerment, and talent identification pathways.

The Inter-Tertiary Football Tournament continues to gain national recognition, signaling a new era for organized university sports in The Gambia under the guidance and support of the National Sports Council.
