Serrekunda, The Gambia – The National Sports Council (NSC) continues to demonstrate its commitment to inclusive sports and athlete development with a strong presence at the international friendly football match between The Gambia and Guinea Bissau, organized by the Gambia Deaf Sports Association. The match, held at the Serrekunda East Mini Stadium, saw The Gambia secure an impressive 6-1 victory.
In attendance were NSC Chairman Lamin Jawara, Desk Wrestling Manager Alhagie Abdoulie Bojang, and Communication & PR Manager Sara Camara, representing the Council and showing their support to the athletes.
Speaking at the conclusion of the game, Chairman Lamin Jawara conveyed the solidarity message on behalf of the Minister of Youth and Sports, who was unable to attend due to prior engagements. Chairman Jawara emphasized the importance of the event, stating, “We are here on behalf of the Minister, and we want to express our appreciation for the efforts of everyone involved. It is heartening to witness this strong bond between The Gambia and Guinea Bissau. These two nations are like one family, and fostering this relationship is a source of pride, especially among this group of athletes.”
He further highlighted the significance of the event which showed the potential of all athletes, regardless of their circumstances. “What we have witnessed today is a clear indication that anyone can achieve greatness. We encourage these athletes to continue their hard work, as there is immense potential in both teams. I am confident that one day, we will see some of these players competing at the international level.”
Chairman Jawara also commended the organizers of the event, noting that it was well-coordinated and successful. He extended a warm welcome to the visitors from Guinea Bissau, expressing his hope for the continued strengthening of the relationship between the two countries. “We are very happy that you are here today, and you are highly welcome. Enjoy your stay in The Gambia. One day, we will also visit Guinea Bissau to keep this relationship strong.”
The NSC’s presence at the event underscored its dedication to supporting all athletes and promoting inclusivity in sports. The Council remains committed to fostering healthy relationships and opportunities that benefit the sports community at large.
