The Sound of Independence: Gambia’s Top Young Artists Set to Shine – Will You Support Their Dream?

As The Gambia gears up to celebrate its 60th Independence Anniversary, the stage is set for a thrilling showcase of raw talent at the National Competitive Music Festival on February 18, 2025, at Qcity. But with the countdown on, organizers are calling for urgent support to ensure the success of this grand event, designed to elevate the next generation of Gambian music stars.

This festival is not just about entertainment – it’s a launchpad for dreams. Seventeen young artists from across the country have fought their way to the final stage, each hoping to claim the top prize and take a step closer to stardom.

A National Commitment to Youth Empowerment

Speaking on the importance of this event, Mr. Mahmoud L. Jawla, Acting Executive Director of the National Sports Council, made a compelling case for supporting Gambian youth through music.

“We have a role to play in ensuring our youths stay home and live meaningful lives. As a Council, one way we can support them is by promoting music- not just as a career path, but also as a tool to promote sports and national development.”

The festival, spanning all seven administrative regions of The Gambia, has seen fierce competition. In some areas, the selection process was so competitive that multiple finalists had to be chosen.

A Platform for Talent and Opportunity

Juluv Arts Entertainment boss, Saul Sowe, highlighted the rigorous selection process, emphasizing that some finalists were too exceptional to be left behind.

“In each region, our judges had the power to recognize extraordinary talent. Where necessary, we made room for additional finalists because some artists were simply too good to miss.”

With talent secured, the focus now shifts to resources. Mr. Lamin Jawara, NSC Chairmanissued a heartfelt plea for corporate sponsorship.

“We know the government can’t do it alone. This is a call for support –   corporate institutions; we need you to stand with us.”

Life-Changing Rewards Await the Best

The stakes are high, with the winner set to receive D500, 000, the runner-up D300, 000, and third place D200, 000. But beyond the money, this festival offers something far greater: a chance for young artists to launch their careers on a national stage.

Will you support the future of Gambian music? The stage is set, the talent is ready – now, the spotlight is on you.
