BASSE, URR – The National Sports Council (NSC) has successfully mediated a long-standing sporting dispute between sports stakeholders in Wuli East District.Following an invitation from Upper River Region (URR) Governor Samba Bah, a three-person NSC delegation, led by Acting Executive Director Mahmoud L. Jawla, arrived in Basse on Monday 13th January,2025.
The delegation, which also included NSC Council Member and Vice Chairman of the Technical Committee Saikou Sanyang, and Communications and Public Relations Manager Sara Camara, met with Governor Samba Bah and the URR Police Commissioner on Tuesday morning. The briefing provided the NSC with a synopsis of the current situation in Wuli East and the governor’s office’s efforts to resolve the dispute.
Later that day after the briefing with the governor, a meeting was held at the Agriculture Office hall with representatives from the Wuli East sports stakeholders, the URR Regional Sports Committee, and the Regional Football Association. Governor Bah emphasized the importance of the gathering, stressing the need for all parties to fulfill their responsibilities and be guided by law. He expressed concern that the dispute was hindering the progress of sports in the region and urged the maintenance of peace and stability.
The resolutions mark a significant step towards resolving the impasse in Wuli East and promoting better sports governance in the region. The NSC’s intervention has been crucial in bringing the parties together and establishing a clear path forward.
