The African Sports Management Association (ASMA), today presented to the President of the Republic of The Gambia, H.E Adama Barrow, the most prestigious gold award to be presented by ASMA. The award was received by the Vice President of Republic of The Gambia, Her Excellency, Dr. Isatou Touray in her office in Banjul.
The award was aimed at recognizing H.E President Adama Barrow’s support to sports development and engagement.
Soon after receiving the award on behalf of President Barrow, Dr. Touray, thanked ASMA for recognizing the efforts of President Adama Barrow, saying “ASMA has awarded the right person who deserves to be awarded for his commitment and support to sports”, said Dr. Isatou Touray.
For his part, Lamin S. Jawara, Chairman of the National Sports Council commended the government of the Gambia through the Ministry of Youth and Sports for supporting the National Sport Council in hosting the 5th ASMA conference whose theme is “investing in grassroots sport, the surest way of achieving excellence in sport”.
According to the NSC Chairman, the ASMA conference has created the opportunity to bring together key sport associations and federations to discuss challenges and achievements but also map out the way forward for African sport.
Professor Oluwaseun Omotayo, the first Vice President of ASMA went down memory lane on the history of ASMA and how it emerged in the continent. He went on to thank President Adama Barrow and his government for accepting to host the ASMA conference.
The presentation ceremony at the office of the Vice President was chaired by the Executive Director of the Gambia National Sports Council, Mr. Marchel Mendy.
