The Gambia continued to make history by qualifying to the continent’s biggest football bonanza to be held in Ivory Coast in January, 2024.
This followed a spirited come-back by the Scorpions, resulting in a 2-2 draw with the Red Devils of Congo in the Gambia’s final match of the qualifiers played in Marrakech on 10th September, 2023, leaving The Gambia on second place, thus qualifying to the AFCON for the second time in the history of our motherland.
In wake of this, the National Sport Council wish to congratulate the Government, the GFF, the national team and all Gambians on the unprecedented and indelible achievement.
While we pledge our unreserved support and commitment to moving our sport to another level, we recognize the fact that it is extremely expensive for Government alone to shoulder. Sequel to this, we wish to call on the private sector, UN system and individuals to invest in our sport as it is one of the surest ways of empowering the youth.
Congratulations once more.
