Minister Badjie Inaugurates New National Sport Council

The Minister of Youth and Sport, Hon. Bakary Y. Badjie, today inaugurated the new National Sport Council at the NAQAA conference hall in Kanifing.The inauguration marks the beginning of a four year term for the Council.

The new Council includes some re-elected and reappointed members. However, among the members are those who are elected and also appointed for the first time.

While delivering his inaugural speech, Minister Badjie congratulated the members and encouraged them to do their best to move Gambian sport to another level. He encouraged Council Members to remain united and to work with their stakeholders and partners in the discharge of their duties.

Furthermore, he commended Council Members for accepting to take up the challenge but also reminded them that they will be judged by how well they have been able to impact positively, Gambian sport at the end of their tenure. Hon. Minister Badjie also used the opportunity to pay glowing tribute to the outgoing Council Members for their selfless service and unwavering commitment, adding that they have contributed immensely to the meteoric development of our sport.

For his part, the Executive Director of the National Sport Council, Marchel Mendy, thanked all for gracing what he called an overwhelmingly important event in the annals of our sport development. Mr. Mendy went down memory lane to remind members and invited guests of some of the achievements in Gambian sports.

Speaking earlier, the Chairman of the National Sport Council, Mr. Lamin S. Jawara thanked the Hon. Minister for entrusting him with such a responsibility and promised to give his best. He was quick to call on government, private sector and all sport enthusiasts to support the NSC in its development programmes.

Certificates of appreciation were awarded to all members who served on the Council for the past four years.
