GAMBIA DRAWN IN GROUP C AGAINST GUINEA CONAKRY, CAMEROON AND SENEGAL

The Scorpions have been drawn in Group C with Senegal, Cameroon and Guinea for the 2023 African Cup of Nations. This will be the Scorpion’s second appearance in the TotalEnrgies African Cup of Nations football tournament to be held in Ivory Coast from 13th January to 11th February 2024.

The Scorpions surprised the world in their AFCON debut in Cameroon 2021, only exiting in the quarterfinals after being defeated by the host, Cameroon. In the 2024 AFCON, The Gambia will face two of the teams in Guinea Conakry and Cameroon, she played against in the last AFCON.

Many football lovers have described it a tough knot to crack, some call it the group of death as it also pitches Gambia against her closest neighbor, Senegal in the Gambia’s first match of the 2023 AFCON to be played on 15th January, 2024.

While we respect the other teams in group C, we are convinced that together as a nation, we CAN repeat the achievement of AFCON 2021 played in Cameroon.

The groups from the draw held last evening are as follows:

Group A: Cote d’Ivoire, Nigeria, Equatorial Guinea, Guinea Bissau
Group B: Egypt, Ghana, Cape Verde, Mozambique.
Group C: Senegal, Cameroon, Guinea, The Gambia.
Group D: Algeria, Burkina Faso, Mauritania, Angola.
Group E: Tunisia, Mali., South Africa, Namibia.
Group F: Morocco, Democratic Republic of Congo, Zambia, Tanzania.
